Design On a Dime: Part II
Design On A Dime (Intro) With the advent of new technology, artists and technicians are always seeking to find methods of including video media into theatrical productions. Without access to Broadway budgets, creativity need not be abandoned! These sessions are intended to introduce various software options available on the market and foster creative discussion on how to apply these tools to achieve desired results within the confines of smaller budget productions. The first session is a broad overview dealing with options and budgets, and the second session is more technical to show solutions at work. Saturday, 10/22 Part II: The low-budget solution can be a novice's educational opportunity to excel or a technical nightmare! With both software and hardware there are limits, and the low budget technician needs to be just as aware of pitfalls that might arise (Yes, instead of a media server you can purchase screen extender software/hardware to achieve 14 extra monitors for one hard drive to feed, is it a good idea to do it? No) This session is geared to the technician who has to assemble and manage a low budget solution that matches up with a designer's ambitious idea. It takes into account that they are often the same person wearing a different hat. From video codec issues to signal drops, what was supposed to be simple can often seem like alchemy. The panelists reconvene to tackle some presented problems, ideally to include some presented in the previous session. Class participants are encouraged to submit challenges to the panel in advance. An emphasis on using a live virtual whiteboard to brainstorm and flowchart solutions (projected onto the big video screens) will be pivotal to bringing all the creative minds on the panel into the same world.
