John Scala
Forensic Meterologist/Broadcaster
Dr. John Scala is a past president of the National Weather Association (NWA). He serves on the NWA’s Committee on Societal Impacts of Weather and Climate, the Strategic Planning Committee and as treasurer after two successive terms as a councilor. Scala received the National Weather Association’s Member of the Year Award in 2009. He is also a member of the American Meteorological Society where he serves on the Board of Continuing Professional Development, the American Geophysical Union, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society. He earned the nationally recognized Certified Consulting Meteorologist designation by the American Meteorological Society in 2011. Scala is often asked to address insurance underwriters, claims adjusters and special investigators, first responders, and emergency managers, as well as public schools and community service organizations on storm damage, severe weather awareness and disaster preparedness. In addition to his on air duties at WGAL, Scala is a forensic meteorologist preparing expert opinions on criminal civil litigation including cases of personal injury, questionable death and storm-related damage.
