Kerstin Larissa Hovland is an experimental animator, programmer, and interdisciplinary artist. Hovland received her MFA from California Institute of the Arts and a BFA in Visual Communication and minor in Computer Science from Iowa State University. As an artist with a background in computer engineering, Hovland’s work integrates art, animation, and performance to express complex scientific and mathematical systems in an accessible and engaging manner. Her work empowers her audience to question, create, and ultimately determine their technological future by engaging a dialogue between math, science and creativity. She has shown work and performed at The Contemporary Austin Museum, The Ruhrtriennale, The Center for Living Arts, and the Musser Art Center. She has also served as faculty in both the Video for Performance and Art & Technology programs at California Institute of the Arts. Hovland is a co-founder and creative director at Electronic Countermeasures, LLC where she and her partner have provided animation and interactive design for a wide range of projects from contemporary art to concerts. Some of their credits include video content design for The 1975, Paul McCartney, The Strokes, Fitz and the Tantrums, Glenn Ligon, The Nasher Sculpture Center, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, and Holland America.
